ALKOLOG

Helping heavy drinkers to become aware of and reduce their alcohol consumption

A digital solution that motivates people to reduce their alcohol intake, thereby improving their health and overall well-being

The challenge

In Denmark, about 860,000 people consume more alcohol than recommended by the Danish Health Authority. Among them, 400,000 have high or potentially harmful drinking habits. According to a population survey by Alcohol & Society, every second person in this group is motivated to reduce their alcohol consumption, but they often lack support.

The innovation

AlokoLog is a digital solution designed to help monitor and lower the alcohol consumption in heavy drinkers or people who simply want to reduce their intake. By logging what you drink, you can track consumption weekly and monthly, receive alerts if you're close to the limit, and get advice on cutting down.

The outcome

AlkoLog has helped 34% of users reduce their alcohol consumption, and 46% have discussed their drinking habits with others, thanks to the support from the app. This research highlights the app's ability to empower people to cut down on alcohol, thereby improving their health and wellbeing.

"The app is a great tool. It's very motivating for me, and even though I already lead a healthy lifestyle, cutting down on alcohol—especially on weekdays—feels beneficial for my health. But I can still enjoy a glass on a special occasion without being fanatical.”

"The doctor looked at my numbers, then at me with a big smile. Everything was perfect. I almost shed a tear right there."

"It becomes a challenge not to drink, and if I have to log a drink in the app, I feel like I've lost to myself."

— BENTE

"I quickly felt better. I got in shape, lost nearly 12 kilos since focusing on alcohol, and had more energy. Deadlines at work are less stressful now, and I’m better at recognizing when I feel pressured."
